HUN
HUN is an answer to my mother's comment, when she once said that hunting your first animal feels the same as giving birth to your first child. HUN is a family project dealing with the complex and invisible bond we build with our family. HUN understands the family as a cosmology, which means everything that is alive that surrounds us. What happens when one of these elements ceases to exist? What happens when a plant or an animal stop breathing?
HUN is conceptualized in book form and contains nine chapters. Together the nine chapters tell a story about how white, Western societies have structured and shaped the world’s cultural understanding of nature. It is made for us to revisit our own beliefs and biases. HUN means “she”. HUNTER means “us”.
HUN is Julia’s first photographic investigation. In 2023, the book won the Fiebre Dummy Award and was awarded a Special Mention by the Jury of the LUMA Rencontres Dummy Book Award Arles. With the dummy book, she was also shortlisted for Kassel Dummy Award, Images Vevey Book Award and FE+SK Book Award the same year. The project HUN is to be published by Madrid-based publisher, Dalpine, in the winter 2023.
